Benefits of an Acne Facial
Regular acne facials can significantly improve skin health by:
- Reducing Acne Lesions – Removes bacteria and debris that contribute to breakouts.
- Minimizing Pore Size – Cleans deep within the pores, reducing their visibility.
- Controlling Oil Production – Balances excess sebum while maintaining hydration.
- Enhancing Skin Clarity – Promotes a brighter, more even complexion.
- Boosting Collagen Production – Helps with acne scarring and skin renewal.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, consistent acne treatments combined with professional skincare can reduce breakouts by up to 60% in just 6 weeks.

Treating acne on the evidence, not by guesswork
Acne is not one condition. Comedonal acne (blackheads and closed comedones) is a blockage problem. Inflammatory acne (papules and pustules) adds bacteria and immune response on top of it, driven largely by Cutibacterium acnes proliferating in a sebum-rich, low-oxygen follicle. Those two need different treatment, and putting an aggressive protocol on inflamed skin usually makes it worse.
What actually works in the treatment room: salicylic acid, a beta hydroxy acid that is oil-soluble and therefore able to get inside the follicle rather than sit on top of it; controlled extraction once the surface has been properly softened; and LED blue light in roughly the 415 nanometre range, which targets the porphyrins produced by acne bacteria without heat or downtime. Red light around 633 nanometres is often layered in afterwards to calm inflammation.
The marks left behind are a separate problem
Most people who say they have "acne scars" actually have two different things. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is flat brown discolouration and fades with time, sun protection and brightening work. Post-inflammatory erythema is the flat red version, common on lighter skin. Genuine atrophic scarring is an indentation in the dermis and needs collagen rebuilding, which is where microneedling comes in. Telling them apart determines the entire plan.
One important safety note
If you are taking isotretinoin (Accutane) or have taken it in the last six months, exfoliation, extraction and resurfacing are contraindicated. Say so at your consultation. Melissa Martinez, a licensed Florida esthetician, will adjust the plan rather than proceed regardless — and will refer you on where a dermatologist is the right call.
