Not All Congestion Is the Same

Open comedones, or blackheads, are oxidized oil and lift with steam and the right pressure. Closed comedones sit under an intact surface and need the skin softened first. Sebaceous filaments, the grey dots on many noses, are normal and refill within weeks, so they are cleared gently rather than squeezed hard. Milia are tiny keratin cysts that won’t squeeze out at all.

This is the biggest argument against doing it yourself in the bathroom mirror: scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from at-home extraction are far harder to fix than the original congestion, especially on deeper skin tones.

Yes. Steam softens the plug and professional extraction lifts it without damaging the skin. Blackheads do return over time, so regular facials every 4 to 6 weeks and a salicylic acid cleanser at home keep pores clearer.

What is a back facial?

A back facial is a cleansing, exfoliating and extraction treatment for the back, an area prone to breakouts and congestion that is hard to reach yourself. At Meljestic Spa it is $100.

Is a deep cleansing facial the same as a detox facial?

In practice, yes. At Meljestic Spa it means clearing pores with steam, exfoliation and extractions. It is a skin treatment, not a body detox, and we don’t make detox health claims.

Do extractions hurt?

You will feel pressure, and a few stubborn spots may sting briefly. Melissa softens the skin first and doesn’t force inflamed lesions, which keeps discomfort and the risk of marks low.

Will I break out after a deep cleansing facial?

A few small spots can surface in the first days as congestion that was already forming comes up. This settles quickly, and skipping makeup for 24 hours helps.
